Through 2001, the banks participating in the Home Improvement Loans have done more than 600 loans for nearly $4.5 million.
Through investments with Fifth Third, FirstMerit, Firstar and BankOne, the Barberton Community Foundation has bought down interest rates for the program – secured loan rates of 4 percent and unsecured loan rates of 5 percent. The program, which has no income restrictions, is for improvements to single-family, owner-occupied homes in the city of Barberton only. Loan amounts run from $1,500 to $20,000 with a maximum term of five years. Applicants must meet the banks’ criteria.
