SCHOLARSHIP RENEWAL POLICY 2003

For the Barberton High School Class of 2000, 2001 & 2002

General Statement

    The Barberton Community Foundation Scholarship Program will be annually evaluated by the Grants Committee who will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding the validity of its continuation. If the program is permitted to continue, its policies will be updated annually. Following are the 2003 application policies for renewal of 2000, 2001 & 2002 scholarships and academic awards. A total amount of $150,000 will be available for scholarships and academic awards for the Barberton High School graduating class of 2000, 2001 & 2002 who received a Barberton Community Foundation 2000, 2001 or 2002 Scholarship or Academic Award.

    Scholarship money may be used for tuition and room and board only. The Barberton Community Foundation Scholarship program does not cover books and other fees. Unused money is returned to the Foundation.

Scholarship/Academic Award Definition

    The Barberton Community Foundation defines a Scholarship, for the purposes of this program, as a grant greater than $100 to be used to offset post high school educational costs that is paid directly to the educational institution.

    The Barberton Community Foundation defines an Academic Award, for the purposes of this program, as a grant of $100 paid directly to the student as an award for their academic performance.

Deadline (July 1, 2003)

    Stipulated materials for those who wish to be considered for renewal of a Barberton Community Foundation 2003 Scholarship or Academic Award are due to the Barberton Community Foundation office at 460 W. Paige Ave. Barberton, Ohio 44203, no later than July 1, 2003.

Application Materials

    Barberton Community Foundation 2003 Scholarship and Academic Award applicants who received a Barberton Community Foundation 2000, 2001 or 2002 Scholarship or Academic Award must submit an official copy of their 2002-03 school year transcripts and 2002-03 College Financial Aid Award Letter to the Barberton Community Foundation by July 1, 2003.

Scholarship Renewal Criteria

    All students who received Barberton Community Foundation 2000, 2001 or 2002 Scholarships or Academic Awards are eligible, on a competitive basis, for a Barberton Community Foundation 2003 Scholarship provided they attend school on a full-time basis and have financial need of $1,000 or more.

    Scholarships will be prioritized according to class rank upon graduation from Barberton High School. Scholarship amounts will be based on either the amount of last year’s scholarship or for those who received academic awards last year, the amount they were eligible to receive if they were awarded a scholarship last year.

Academic Award Renewal Criteria

    All students who received Barberton Community Foundation 2000, 2001 or 2002 Scholarships or Academic Awards are eligible, on a competitive basis, for a Barberton Community Foundation 2002 Academic Award provided they have maintained a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA and attend school on a full-time basis. Students who receive a Barberton Community Foundation 2003 Scholarship are not also eligible for a Barberton Community Foundation 2003 Academic Award.

Additional Criteria

    Starting in 2001, the following cumulative grade point averages are required for renewal:
    End of Freshman Year: 2.75 or better
    End of Sophomore and Junior Years: 3.0 or better
