CRITERIA

In order to be eligible for any of the following scholarships, a student must have a minimum unweighted 4.0 based GPA of at least 3.0 and have passed all five sections of the 9th Grade Proficiency Test. The scholarship candidate must be a resident of either the Barberton School District or the City of Barberton, and they must be a graduate of Barberton High School with a minimum of two years attendance at the High School. The candidate must plan on attending college on a full-time basis. In the instance of a tie, the Scholarship money will be split evenly between the students. The Athletic Scholarship will be awarded to the varsity level senior athlete (1 male & 1 female) with a minimum of two (2) varsity letters and a GPA of 3.0 or better. The Artistic Scholarship will demonstrate excellence in the area(s) of the visual and/or performing arts. The Character Award will include a requirement of community service beyond the hours required for graduation. A student can receive only one scholarship from the Foundation program per year.

All Scholarships are granted at the discretion of the Barberton Community Foundation. The enclosed criteria will be for the present calendar year of the program only. The Foundation Board of Trustees will review the criteria annually, at which time changes may be initiated.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The Selection Committee will be chaired by the High School Principal and will include a High School Counselor, the Athletic Director, the Senior Class Advisor, a member of the PTA, and a representative of the Barberton Community Foundation.

RENEWALS

All Scholarships may be renewable for up to the four years following graduation. The student must attend school on a full-time basis. The following cumulative grade point averages are required for renewal, starting in 2001:
End of Freshman Year: 2.75 or better. End of Sophomore and Junior Years: 3.0 or better. An official transcript containing the student’s college career grades and College Financial Aid Letter are required by July 1st of each year.

In order to avoid any confusion, the "cumulative grade point average" for the Sophomore and Junior years does include the average from the Freshman year.

Renewal Information will be mailed to the home address of the student in early May.
