Consistent with the limitations of the Foundation, donations can be made to the Barberton Community Foundation in any amount, at any time, to any existing or new fund.
Gifts given in memory or honor of an individual are acknowledged to the honoree or the honoree's family.
All donations are tax-deductible, and all donors receive a letter of acknowledgment for their records.
Naming a Fund
Anyone can start a new named fund at the Foundation. An initial donation of as little as $1 is all that is needed, provided it is accompanied by a commitment to reach a minimum goal of $5,000 within five years. The Foundation will follow the donor's specifications for the granting of the funds. The following is a list of fund categories:
Donor-advised Fund: Grants are suggested to the board by the donor.
Designated Fund: Awards its earnings to whatever charitable entity the donor chooses, such as a church, nonprofit agency or educational institution.
Community Service Fund: Addresses the ever-changing needs of the community.
Field of Interest Fund: Awards grants in a donor's particular area of interest, such as economic development, conservation, education, health care, senior citizens or youth at risk.
Scholarship Fund: Assists students with the costs of higher education.
Planned Giving
A planned Giving Program targets unconventional donor assets for deferred donations to charites. This program usually increases the donor's spendable income while increasing his/her eventual gift to charity.
The Barberton Community Foundation will assist area charities in initiating and maintaining their Planned Giving Program. The foundation can also assist individual donors who wish to participate in this program. Trusts, Pooled Income Funds, Retirement Assets, Bequests, Insurance Assets and Life Estate Gifts are all pieces of the Planned Giving puzzle. Let the Barberton Community Foundation help you put the puzzle together.
